The Legal Proceedings That Could Lead to the Removal of the U.S. President: Hunter Biden Brought to Court

Hunter Biden, the son of the American president, is set to appear in a Los Angeles court on Thursday for the first time on tax fraud charges, posing an embarrassing situation for his father Joe, who is gearing up for a new showdown against Donald Trump at the White House.

A businessman and former drug addict, currently a painter, Hunter Biden has become a punching bag for Republican opposition, leveraging his legal issues to accuse the entire family of corruption, albeit without evidence so far.

Conservatives have initiated impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden for his alleged role in his son’s controversial dealings in Ukraine and China.

The preliminary hearing in Los Angeles follows a parliamentary hearing that turned into a brawl in Washington when the president’s son unexpectedly appeared to protest against the Republicans’ attitude.

They are attempting to punish him for refusing to testify last month about his business past at a closed-door committee hearing and have ensured he will only speak if the hearing is open to the public.

The 53-year-old son of the president faces nine charges, ranging from tax fraud to false statements.

The justice system suspects him of “spending millions on an extravagant lifestyle instead of paying his taxes,” according to the indictment, which mentions drug use, as well as payments to afford “escort” companies, cars, and luxury clothing.

Due to a “scheme,” Hunter Biden did not pay the $1.4 million in taxes owed for the tax years 2016 through 2019, according to the indictment.

The president’s son faces up to 17 years in prison in this case.

He is also indicted in another case in Delaware (east) for illegal possession of a firearm. Therefore, he could potentially be tried twice in 2024, while his father attempts to be re-elected to the White House.

A plea deal was initially intended to allow him to avoid prison and these embarrassing proceedings, both on the fiscal side and regarding the firearm acquisition. However, it was canceled last summer after a judge had doubts about its validity.

Republicans accuse the U.S. justice system of being too lenient with Hunter Biden, a claim dismissed by his lawyer, Abbe Lowell.

“On the facts and the law, if Hunter’s last name were not Biden, the prosecutions in Delaware and now in California would not have been brought,” he stated in December.
